Curriculum Statement

From September 2014, we have been teaching the new primary National Curriculum. Our Early Years and Foundation Stage departments follow the Statutory Framework for the curriculum.

The twelve schools in Redbridge and Lordshill Federation work together on curriculum design and development.

We are all committed to the principles of the United Nations Conventions on the rights of the Child, especially Article 28: Every child has the right to an education.

Our curriculum, we have collaborated to make sure our curriculums: 

  • meet statutory requirements
  • are broad and balanced
  • offer first-hand experiences
  • have clear skills progressions
  • allow pupils to apply these skills
  • encompass the arts
  • support vulnerable groups and individual needs
  • foster pride in our city
  • promote health and well-being
  • fulfill the requirement to promote British values
  • support children’s place in a multicultural society

We share high expectations of our pupils and our staff, our curriculums have a common approach to assessment for learning and we all aim for high standards in all areas.  At the same time, our collective approach allows each school to develop a curriculum at local level which reflects the needs and intakes of our unique settings. We have a commitment to continue to work together at all levels and share good practice via our leadership and curriculum networks.

We believe that that a rich and engaging curriculum is essential for children to learn.  At Shirley Warren we have a strong emphasis on embedding the core subjects such as English, maths and computing through all other subjects.  We value a curriculum which is based on meaningful learning experiences; brought to life with exciting trips and visiting experts.

We adapt our curriculum to reflect the needs and interests of each cohort and enable all children to be included. This curriculum supports children in their learning whether starting out on their journey with us at two years old or transitioning onto secondary school.

As a Gold Arts Mark school; we believe that all children have a right to an education which develops the whole child. We promote an innovative curriculum, rich in art, music and sports. We provide an opportunity for all children to learn a musical instrument and attend Arts and sports clubs free of charge.

One of our strategic aims is to develop a strong partnership between home and school to ensure all families feel fully engaged and supported in their child’s education.  We provide a wide and varied   programme of workshops and open afternoons which help parents to be involved with their children’s education. Half termly newsletters, parents’ evenings and our school website enable parents to be fully informed regarding the learning of their children.

We have been awarded the Nurture Mark award celebrating the successful role that our Nurture Group in developing the sskills of our children in their learning behaviour.
